The meaning behind Vaugnity

Choosing a name for something as important as a foundation is no small task. After all, a name carries meaning, represents the values behind the organization, and sets the tone for everything we hope to achieve. That’s why I wanted to take some time to share with you the story behind our name: Vaugnity.

The story behind the name

Vaugnity is not just a word; it’s a blend of two powerful ideas: “Vaughn” and “dignity.” Together, they reflect both the heart and mission of this foundation.

• Vaughn: The name Vaughn has its roots in Welsh, meaning “small” or “humble.” It reminds me of the humility with which we approach this work. Even though the problems we’re tackling – modern slavery, hunger, lack of education, and poverty – are enormous, we recognize that we must start from a place of humility. Our foundation isn’t about us; it’s about serving those in need. Vaughn also carries a sense of leadership and nobility, which we aim to model through the responsible and ethical use of financial resources.
• Dignity is at the core of everything we believe in. Everyone, regardless of their circumstances, deserves to live with dignity. Whether it’s someone who has been exploited by modern slavery, a child who is going hungry, or a community struggling in poverty, Vaugnity is committed to restoring dignity to those who have been marginalized or oppressed.

The combination of Vaughn and dignity speaks directly to our mission. We aim to lead humbly, always mindful of the people we serve, while prioritizing the dignity of every individual and community we support. But our name also speaks to our global approach. Vaugnity will be active worldwide, but with a strong local focus. We believe that impact begins at home, which is why we will support local initiatives in Belgium and neighboring countries like the Netherlands, while also reaching out to the most impactful projects across the globe.

This balance allows us to:

When I think of Vaugnity, I am reminded of our calling to approach this mission with humility and to prioritize the dignity of others above all else. This is what will guide our actions and decisions as we move forward.

Choosing this name also reflects our desire to inspire others. We hope the name Vaugnity will stand as a reminder that true progress is not measured by financial wealth or societal status, but by how well we care for the people and the world around us.
