Finding the right notary

As Vaugnity moves closer to full incorporation, one of the most important steps is ensuring that our legal foundation is solid. Finding a notary who truly understands the nuances of public-interest foundations is crucial for setting Vaugnity up for long-term success. Here’s how we navigated this process and where we currently stand.

The search for expertise

Establishing a foundation that serves the public interest involves navigating a complex legal landscape. To ensure that Vaugnity is structured correctly and complies with Belgian regulations, I initially reached out to organizations known for their support of non-profits, such as stichtingen.be and KBS (King Baudouin Foundation). My hope was that they could recommend a notary experienced in setting up public-interest foundations.

Unfortunately, despite their extensive networks, neither organization could point me toward a specific notary with the expertise we were looking for. It was a bit discouraging, as I had hoped to find a specialist who could guide us through the intricacies of Belgian non-profit law with confidence.

Turning to a trusted source

With no direct referrals, I decided to reach out to my own notary, someone I’ve worked with in the past and trust. While they may not have initially specialized in public-interest foundations, they’ve been incredibly proactive in understanding the unique needs and legal requirements for Vaugnity.

We are now collaborating closely to draft the statutes—the legal documents that define Vaugnity’s mission, structure, and governance. This process is critical to ensuring that our foundation is built on solid legal ground, aligned with our mission to support impactful projects locally and globally.

Reviewing the statutes: The current focus

At this stage, we’re deep into reviewing the statutes to make sure they not only meet all legal requirements but also reflect the core values and vision of Vaugnity. Working with my notary has been efficient, as we’re able to have open and direct conversations about the legal intricacies involved. This collaboration is helping us lay a robust legal foundation that will enable Vaugnity to operate transparently and effectively.

Looking ahead

Finding the right legal guidance has been a journey, but we are now on the right track. The focus is on getting the statutes finalized so that Vaugnity can move forward with its official incorporation. Once this milestone is reached, we’ll be one step closer to turning our vision into a reality.
